Bird store opening in Brooklyn

Last night I attended the third Bird store opening in Brooklyn. I didn’t know what to expect but was very surprise by the store. An amazing interior designed by a nordic interior designer in an old bread factory, a mix of raw material, brick walls and wooden panels nicely putting in value the great selection of clothes. From Steven Alan, Phillip Lim, Thakoon or Rag and Bone, the store really offers an amazing selection of contemporary designers. A store to absolutely discover!

Belgium brunch nyc

Yesterday, I went to the Belgium brunch in NYC in front of the Apple store in meatpack on 14th street and 9ave. The concept is to organize pop up brunch in public places, where each person brings a dish and wear white. A collegial and social gathering to experiment. The guests were quite diverse from journalists, to finance or even fashionistas.

Midsommar party in NY

I have so many swedish friends that I end up celebrating the Midsommar with them. It is basically the celebration of summer in Sweden, but this time it was in Battery Park in NY. The event was organized by the Swedish embassy. It goes from drinking snaps, singing traditional songs and dancing around a maple with traditional dances. A great cultural event which attracted the Swedish community and non swedes.

Christian Louboutin fall 2011 lookbook

I just saw Christian Louboutin lookbook for next fall and absolutely loving it. Lookbook tends to be extremely expensive to produce, when most of designer will go for a basic background and model, Christian Louboutin went for a very original lookbook inspired by classic iconic portraits for his new collection in association with photographer Peter Lippman.

The Dream hotel NYC – The new hot spot in nyc

Last week, we went to the opening of the Dream hotel in Meatpack NYC. The opening was made into two events the same night at 6pm for the corporate event and 9.30 for the more fashionable one. The event had a big crowd of indian partners and investors but later a few celebrities and socialite joined the party. From mermaid in the pool, to pass hors d’oeuvre and models in bikinis, the event was a great success. It went through three floors, the lobby with its restaurant, the pool area and the penthouse club with an amazing view over the city. A total dreamy place! It seems during the summer and over the year, they will be opening different space within the hotel, a gastronomic high end restaurant on the ground floor and another secret club location. The Dream hotel will definitely be a hot destination for the next months.

Eataly’s Beer Garden – Birreria

After nearly a year of being opened, Eataly has just opened its beer Garden on the 12th floor in NYC. A great outdoor space for the summer, offering their own beer brewed inhouse. The space offers a full menu of local, in house and international beers along with a menu of rustic and simple cuisine.

Bazaar shop at Surf Lodge

A few week end ago, I was invited for a week end in Montauk. It was actually my first time in this side of Long Island. I though it was really different than South Hampton. The ambience was all around the beach and surfing with a very lay back attitude. Absolutely loved it. Best store was the Bazaar at Surf lodge, carrying a great selection of beachwear from the Soledos sandals to the Lisa Marie Fernandez swimwear.

Dubai Fashion week April 2011

Who knew I would cover Dubai Fashion week one day!! Absolutely not me. Dubai fashion week is organized by Capital marketing an event management company between April 19th to April 23rd 2011 at the World Trade Center in Dubai. It is a mix of a trade show and fashion show, where all the designers have the opportunity to showcase in individuals booth their collection prior and after the show. The venue is quite small compared to the other fashion weeks around the world.

The event featured different local and regional designers, from Paula K, HSY, Mariam Al Mazro, Tatyana Aceeva, Aly Fawaz Contessa, Montaigne and many others.

We meet with a few of them after the show, along with emerging designers group. Some are not yet in stores but you can order directly their designs through their own facebook page. All are individually handmade.

I was quite disappointed by the shows I saw. The venue was empty, only the first two front row were filled, lack of photographer and press…

I am glad I had the opportunity to attend but frankly there is a lot to develop and I believe Dubai Fashion week is only at its emerging stage. It would have been nice to see a better attendance, a better selection of designers, sponsors, involvement of fashion managzines and international designers to be able to bring some buzz to the event.

Summer 2011 key trend: Colorful stripes

A major trend for this summer 2011 is the colorful stripes. Not your usual sailor blue and white stripes, but the colorful a bit vintage large stripes. Spotted at designers such as Prada, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu… A refreshing trend far way from the usual animal prints and floral bloom.

Donna Karan’s New Urban Zen Elements collection

Donna Karan presented last Friday her new Urban Zen, Elements, collection benefiting the foundation. The presentation was held at the Urban Zen fondation on Greenwhich Street with Donna Karan herself. The collection featured cleaned and asymmetrics silhouettes with a lounge feeling. Shades of hearty tones inspired by nature with stones, browns and greens color palettes. An effortless look which seems to be quite comfortable.

Rebecca Taylor store opening

Last night I attended the Rebecca store opening under a crazy weather. I was super impressed by the celebrities in attendance, from Rebecca Taylor herself, to Katrina Bowden, Slita Ebanks, Tika Sumpter and Alice Eve. The store looked gorgeous and I felt in love with the new collection. Definitely going back on a quieter day. While sipping champagne, eating cupcakes from Melissa and looking at the colorful printed dress, I had so much fun. Until I had to step out under an heavy snow storm…

Bill Cunninghan is a Society photographer for the New york Times and started in the fashion industry as a hat maker and fashion journalist. Bill Cunningham is a legend in New York City and such a character. He is at the origin of Street photography. He also received the title of chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres in france in 2008.

John Galliano was officially fired from Christian Dior after beeing drunk in a French coffee and saying anti semitic comments to a couple. I just heard on the French radio he apprently said to them ” I love Hitler” . I am in total chock !!

Best Oscar 2011 dresses

I am not sure why but I was a bit disappointed by last night choice of dresses. However my favorites were Mila Kunis in a silk chiffon and lace lavender dress by Elie Saab, Natalie Portman in a purple silk chiffon Rodarte gown and her gorgeous mommy glow and Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier shimmer nude gown.

Over the week end, I was scrolling down Bleecker street in NY and I realized a lot of new shops are about to open including Burberry and my favorite french jewelry line Gas Bijoux.Gas line is seriously to die for!! Amazing handcrafted, great quality and costume jewelry that will make a statement with any outfit! Originally created in St Tropez, Gas is one of those typical French riviera success story. André Gas from Marseille first started to sell his jewelry on the beach of St Tropez 40 years ago. A family business inspired by the hippy movement , which seems to constantly expand.
